Greetings from Vision Council.
As we move forward into the warm weather of the summer months, we on Vision Council continue to move forward during this time of transition within God’s church. There has been progress made on a couple of different fronts that I’d like to update you on. Last month I wrote about the formation of the Governance Team. That team is now mostly formed and a kickoff meeting was held to get them started on the task of reviewing policy governance and understanding what that governance model would look like at Charity. The team members currently in place are Julie Slag, Shane Naslund, Robert Nelson, Allen Knudson, Kevin Kindel, and Al Jaeger. We have also given that team the option to add a seventh member to the team as they see fit. Please pray for this team as they start their work.
The next update I’d like to give you surrounds comments and feedback from the open forums held in April. We heard that it would be good for any governance changes to be in place prior to issuing a call to fill the pastoral position. We agree with this and have set a target date for the Governance Team’s work to be completed by the end of November this year. The next item that was brought up was that of an interim pastor with much concern ensuring Pastor Scott is not overwhelmed and overworked during this time. We have had much discussion with Pastor Scott and Doug on this topic and have decided to move forward in the following ways. Scott has been working on further coordinating and training a visitation team to handle some of his responsibilities in that area. We are thankful for these volunteers and their ability to relieve Scott’s workload in this area. Scott has also put together a preaching schedule that will include Pastor Sam as well as some guest preachers to spread out that workload. Pastor Sam will be the primary preacher at our WOW services for the upcoming year.
We will continue to be in regular contact with Sam as well to ensure that his workload at Charity and his workload as he transitions to Circle C are balanced. We are excited about our preschool, children’s and youth ministries for the upcoming year. The leaders of these teams are hard at work planning for the upcoming year and have awesome things planned for our kids! At this time, Pastor Scott feels these activities have positioned him with the right amount of workload. We will continue to have discussions with Scott and Doug and will make changes as necessary if the need arises. The final aspect of the open forums that has been discussed is volunteer coordination. There is more work to be done here, but one aspect we feel will start to help manage some of the documentation/tracking side of this is a new software package that we are moving to called Simple Church. That is only one portion of the improvement in the volunteer coordination area – there is more discussion to be had and future updates to come in this area.
The final update I’d like to give you is in regard to organizational structure and development of a job description for the pastoral call. We have made significant progress in this area with some more work to be done. We expect to be able to give you a good update on this area in the next newsletter article and potentially sooner!
These are both challenging and exciting times. As always we continue to seek God’s will for our church and are prayerful in considering all aspects of our work! We know God has great plans for us and it’s exciting to see Him move in His congregation and through His people!
