Sue B. Balcom has been Charity’s Communication Coordinator for nearly three years. Her family, however, has been attending Charity for more than 30 years. Her son, Adam, was baptized, confirmed and married at Charity and now attends with his family. Sue married J.C. Balcom in 2007, and daughter, Claire, was married at Charity in 2008.
Sue’s go-to Bible passage comes from Isaiah 55:9-13 -- “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.
As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty,
but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it. You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands. Instead of the thorn bush will grow the juniper,
and instead of briers the myrtle will grow. This will be for the Lord’s renown, for an everlasting sign, that will endure forever.”
“It was my Charity family and Pastor Bob and Karen Nordvall that changed my life, stood by me through the years of raising my children as a single parent and other stressful times,” she said.
Sue and J.C. spend their summers gardening and doing farmers markets as “The Root Sellers.” Living north of Mandan, they enjoy hiking and water activities, mostly kayaking. Her favorite hymn is “Peace like a River.” And, there’s not one Bible story that stands out above the others as a favorite, but every day Sue said she learns a new story in the Word.
