Melissa Hill has been a part of the elementary ministry team at Charity for about three years. Recently, she created a “bus ministry” called ConnectKIDS which meets on Sunday afternoons.
Her go-to Bible verses are Romans 15:13 and Matthew 6:21.
She said, “I’ve had many God moments. Over the years, God has shown me that He has a plan for me and, although it has taken many years and I’ve shed many tears, His plan is always better than anything I tried to do on my own or could’ve ever imagined. Thankfully, He’s proven over and over that He’s in control and I can’t “save” or “fix” anyone (which is what I tried to do for so many years). Instead, God had shown me that all I can do is encourage others to have a genuine relationship with Him and show them by living my life in accordance with God’s will for me. By doing this, I can rest in knowing that He does the saving, He does all the work, and that HE has brought great joy to my life.”
“Just be Held,” by Casting Crowns is her current favorite Christian song.
Melissa says her family is very important to her and loves to spend time chasing her children around.
She has been married to her best friend, Derek, for 18 years and they have four biological children: Elle (16), Jaxon (14), Laney (7) and Linkin (5). Derek and Melissa also care for a seven-month-old foster baby.
“My favorite story is Jonah because I can relate to Jonah so much. I’m sad to say that I’ve run from God in the past. I’ve always known God, but I’ve not always been obedient to Him. I know that in the past, I’ve felt his prompting to help others, or to lead them to Him and I haven’t always complied. Many times I’ve been more worried about how I’ll be perceived by others, or I’ve have been too embarrassed to bring up His name in a conversation even though I know in my heart that through Him the person I’m talking to would benefit. To date, I still have to work at this and, although I’ve learned how to be more obedient to His call, it will always be something that I need Him to help me with. The story of Jonah helped me understand this. Much like most of the stores in the Bible, there are examples of the struggles we’ll go through as Christians, and it’s comforting to know that God guides us every step of the way. I will continue to grow in this area as I allow God to work through me, despite my hesitations and inadequacies,” she said.
